Olympics and rain spoil weekend
Frogs 112 for 4 - match abandoned
Bright sunshine and a track with a most welcome green sheen greeted
the sides at Cranleigh HQ. With Harrow Wanderers having cancelled the
game for the day before because they were flummoxed by having to negotiate their
way from Fulham onto the A3 without going through Putney and so avoiding the Olympic cycling, this young OC side was
desperate to get some cricket it. Captain Henderson, positively salivating at
the first non-white deck since 1997 won the toss and fielded.
Within an hour it was clear that rain was going to play a factor and we were on an off twice before lunch. In between the heavy showers the Frogs were tied down by some tight bowling from Henry Watkinson and Huggy Harrison. Watkinson couldn't bag himself a wicket though and when he sent out deep square and saw his bouncer disappear for six it was time for him to be replaced. Henderson bowled the other opener, the fifteen year old bemused by one that swung in, darted away and nudged the off bail.
One further session was possible after lunch. Nick Walker of Cranleigh CC eased his way quickly to fifty being particulalry hard in the process on poor Ed Prince. At the other end Tom Merry had held onto a flying catch in the gully. However the damp conclusion was that at 4pm, it having hailed, the match could proceed no further with the Frogs 112 for 4 from 30 overs. Ed Henderson
